Alberta Basic Security Training (ABST) & Examination 

(Issuing Authority – Alberta Solicitor General) 

Duration: 40-hour

Course Load: 15 registrants (minimum:10).

Description:  This course is delivered in seven modules; each module deals with specific topic areas and there are learning outcomes associated with each.

The modules which make up the Alberta Basic Security Training course are:

  • Module 1: Introduction to the Security Industry
  • Module 2: The Canadian Legal System and Security Professionals
  • Module 3: Basic Security Procedures
  • Module 4: Communication for Security Professionals
  • Module 5: Documentation and Evidence
  • Module 6: Emergency Response Procedures for Security Professionals
  • Module 7: Health & Safety for Security Professionals

To receive a certificate indicating successful completion of this course, you must attend all sessions of this training and pass a written examination proctored by the Solicitor General with a minimum passing grade of 80%.

Alberta Certification in Use-of-Force

(Issuing Authority – Alberta Solicitor General)

Duration: 40-hour

Course Load: 15 registrants (minimum:10)

Description: At the completion of the 40-hour training program the graduate will demonstrate, through a written (minimum 80% pass grade) and practical examination, an understanding of the legal liabilities associated with use-of-force and practical training in how-to gain control in different situations of a subject using no more force than is reasonably necessary. This program is accredited by the Alberta Solicitor General & Public Security. Students must attain a pass mark of 80%. Training includes certification in Handcuffing.

  • Handcuffing – Uncooperative
  • Blocking Single Stance
  • Blocking Multiple Strikes  
  • Hand/baton versus Knife Defense
  • Closed Baton Techniques

  • Weapon Retention
  • Striking Techniques

Security Technician

(Issuing Authority – Project Safe Canada)

Duration: 40-hours
Course Load: 15 registrants (minimum:10)
Description: The student will possess the necessary knowledge and skills to install and maintain electronic security systems for homes, business, and industrial sites.  The electronic systems covered are closed-circuit television (CCTV), various alarm systems, motion sensors and secure phone lines.  Program includes up to three months of practical training with either community or commercial service provider.

  • Electrical/wiring requirements

  • Safety considerations
  • Alarm incident management

Call Centre Technician

(Issuing Authority – Project Safe Canada)

Duration:
Course Load: 6 registrants
Description: The student will possess the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively manage call centre operations. Call centre technicians are responsible for product and service representation, incident/response service and call centre management.
