Drones

Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) License – Basic

Duration: 40-hours
Course Load: Minimum 8 – 15
Description: PSC Ground School includes a comprehensive review of the rules and regulations governing the operation of RPAS in Canada, as well as everything that RPAS operators should know prior to piloting an aircraft. Course Outline content covers the mandatory Transport Canada learning outcomes described in TP 15263: Knowledge Requirements for Pilots of Unmanned Air Vehicle Systems (UAV) 25 kg or Less, Operating within Visual Line of Sight.

The course will focus on the following learning outcomes:

  • Air Laws, rules, and regulations,
  • RPAS components airframes and systems
  • Aerodynamics and Theory of Flight
  • Navigation
  • Human Factors
  • Meteorology
At the end of the ground school a Transport Canada on- line exam is given.
** Certain drone services require a helper to maintain visual observation of drone and respond to tasks as assigned by Drone Pilot. It is recommended the position of Drone Pilot Helper be qualified with RPAS License – Basic.

RPAS License – Advanced

Duration: 40-hour

Course Load: Minimum 8 – 15

Description: The student will possess the necessary knowledge and skills to qualify as a Transport Canada licensed Drone pilot. At the end of the course students will be given a Transport Canada on-line exam and a flight review done by a Transport Canada Reviewer

The course content covers:

  • How to use ARMS software
  • Demonstrate Flight Termination Procedures
  • Take off and land procedures
  • Learn Advanced operational maneuvers
  • Utilize auto flight procedures
  • Proper handling and set up of RPAS
  • How to handle batteries
  • Pre-flight inspection
  • Complete Site Survey
  • Develop Flight Plan

Advanced RPAS (Drone) – Thermal & Night Flying

Duration: 40-hours
Prerequisite: Advanced Pilot License
Course Load: No minimum
Description: The student will possess the necessary knowledge and skills to fly a Drone at night, including flying with thermal cameras.

The course content covers:

  • Setting up grids and basic mapping
  • Safe night operations
  • Pre-flight inspections
  • Developing a night-time survey and flight plan
  • Understanding thermal camera operations
  • Learn all controls of extra payload

Advanced RPAS (Drone) – Search & Rescue

(Issuing Authority – Project Safe Canada)

Duration: 40-hours

Prerequisite: Advanced Pilot License

Course Load: Minimum 8 – 15

*Pre-requisite: Transport Canada Advanced Drone Pilot License

Description: The student will possess the necessary knowledge and skills to support search and rescue (SAR) efforts to locate missing or injured persons and/or domestic animals or wildlife. The training program is developed in compliance with the requirements of Standard Test Course for Urban Search and Rescue for Unmanned Vehicles (NIST).

The course content covers:

  • Overview – search and rescue techniques
  • Forward Looking Infrared Radar (FLIR) technology
  • Introduction to flying SAR grid patterns
  • Practical flying exercises – day
  • Practical flying exercises – night
  • Imagery interpretation and dissemination

Advanced RPAS (Drone) – Grid Mapping

Duration: 40-hours
Prerequisite: Advanced Pilot License
Course Load: Minimum 8 – 15
Description: The student will possess the necessary skills and knowledge to fly Drones in mapped locations. Students will be introduced to various software applications utilized in mapping and surveying.

The course content covers:

  • Intro to mapping and modeling
  • Aerial Photogrammetry
  • 2D map data
  • Collecting 2D map data
  • 3D modeling
  • Collecting 3D map modeling
  • Using the map engine
  • Analyzing data
  • Map accuracy
  • Ground control points
  • Using ground control points
  • Exporting data to app market

 

Train-The-Trainer – Drone Assembly & Basic Programming

Duration: 3 days

Prerequisite: Advanced Pilot License

Description: The student will possess the necessary skills and knowledge to assemble the Drone that is utilized in Drone Soccer and Drone Racing.

The course content covers:

  • Basic operation of a Drone
  • How to assemble a Drone
  • How to program a Drone
